Are you young and African, and do you want to collaborate with others who share your commitment to affecting change at all levels? Then join the SDG Innovation Challenge 2022

Students, community activists, professionals, changemakers, social entrepreneurs, and anyone else in Africa with an interest are welcome to participate.

The SDG Innovation Challenge, which was created as a virtual, pan-African ideation arena, is a catalyst for young people from all over the globe to come together and co-develop useful solution ideas to local problems while advancing sustainable development on a larger scale.

This innovation challenge was created in 2020, and it requires participants to use their design and complex thinking abilities to provide quantifiable and qualitative solutions to problems.

The World Bank reports that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused approximately 40 million people in Africa to live in extreme poverty and has negatively impacted the economy and way of life in numerous ways.

The SDG Innovation Challenge brings together driven young Africans to co-create useful inventions that promote the sustainability of their local communities.

This challenge presents different opportunities which include: access to a wide network, a space to flex your global citizen muscle, access to diverse platforms of young activists, legislators and organizations etc.

Participation Criteria

  • Only teams of four to seven people may sign up:
  • You must bring a group of 4–7 people, including yourself, in order to register. Additionally, we support the formation of interdisciplinary groups. True innovation occurs when people from various realities or backgrounds come together and collaborate for a common goal. This involves bridging disparate realities, intersecting sectors, working across boundaries, and moving forward as a team.
  • Any concept entering the contest must be at most in its infancy (early) stages:
  • This is not an acceleration program; it is an ideation marathon. Do not register an idea if you already have a fairly developed concept or if you have your heart set on a particular idea and are not willing to reconsider it, consider alternative viewpoints, and perhaps even change how the solution idea ultimately develops. We’re here to generate new ideas, discover them through cross-border collaboration, and come together around solutions.

How to Participate

You must first register your group, which can be done by any group member. Since you will be required to enter their details here, you must be prepared with the names and email addresses of the young innovators you will be collaborating with.

An email containing instructions for the second phase where each member of the group must give additional personal information to make the event a complete success will be sent to the registrant after the group registration is complete.

The SDG Innovation Challenge 2022 will only accept groups that have finished both steps, which are equally crucial.

Each registration will be checked for eligibility and pre-selected. The deadline for application is Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
