The Impact Amplifier Africa Online Safety Fund 2023 is now accepting applications. The Africa Online Safety Fund will provide grants to organizations that confront one or more of the safety challenges facilitated by the Internet.

The Africa Online Safety Fund provides funding in three categories: transformative, maturing, and catalytic.

The Transformative projects are designed to be more prominent in scope, to meet numerous geographies and possibly massive numbers of beneficiaries, and to be scalable as a solution.

The Maturing projects are designed to test ideas on a larger scale, experiment with new ideas within existing projects, and expand their audience.

Catalytic projects are intended to be smaller, more focused, and potentially only available locally or culturally.

Expected grant

• Transformative grants will be worth up to $50,000, Maturing grants will be worth up to $25,000, and Catalytic grants will be worth up to $10,000.
• Organizations cannot apply for more funding than 50% of their annual budget if they do not fit their project into the category descriptions provided.

Eligibility for participation

• The Fund is open to organizations from all over Sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana.
• Applicants may be public benefit organizations, private businesses, or government agencies. Individual applications will not be considered.

Criteria for selection

The following are the main criteria that will be used to choose successful applicants:

Social Impact: What is the scope of the issue being tackled in terms of online safety? What is the intervention’s possible social impact? What are the implications if the intervention is scaled up beyond the current plan? Is it possible to increase the intensity? (Is it affordable, sustainable, and replicable?)

Success Probability: How plausible is the intervention to accomplish its intended goals?

Management Team: What is the management team’s strength and experience, as well as the precedent set by the team in terms of cooperation, goal achievement, and beneficiaries served?

Financial Effectiveness: Is the desired funding an effective resource utilization? How do the demanded amount, the extent of the problem to be addressed, and the number of beneficiaries compare to other applicants?

Sustainability: Can the proposed intervention be financially sustainable after this grant ends? If so, how and how large?
