Five more African startups have been enlisted for the Winter 2022 Batch of the Silicon Valley Accelerator programme, Y Combinator. The accelerator programme is set to have its demo day in March and this programme is one that has had a significant impact in the early days of companies like Airbnb, Coinbase, and Dropbox, among others.

Participants at the programme demo day receive initial funding as well as additional investment options. And it was earlier reported that the programme's S21 edition enlisted 15 African startups - the most African participants yet for the programme.

With almost 230 organizations now enlisted to participate at the W22 Batch, five more African startups have been added to the list, bringing the total number of African participants to 15, which is equivalent to the number of African participants in S21.

However, more companies are said to be announced in the coming month before and after the demo day.

Of the 15 companies from Africa, Nigeria accounts for 11. Of the total new five, Nigeria accounts for four while Kenya accounts for one:

Remedial Health: A pharma-focused health firm

Duplo: A fintech startup that strives to digitize cash flows for B2B companies

Grey: Originally Aboki Africa, Grey Finance offers foreign currency wallets for Africans;

Heyfood: A food ordering and delivery platform for restaurants.

Boya (Kenya): Allows businesses to rapidly provide corporate cards to employees as well as provide software that allows them to control and monitor all spending in real-time.

The accelerator’s standard transaction size has climbed to US$500,000. YC had previously invested US$125,000 for 7% equity, but as part of its new standard offer, it will now spend an additional US$375,000 in an uncapped SAFE with “Most Favoured Nation” (MFN) terms.
