Uber has unveiled a series of new features aimed at improving the driver experience on its platform. Among the new additions is Flex Pay, which allows drivers nationwide to access their earnings more frequently through their mobile wallets. This move from weekly to daily payouts enables drivers to more promptly meet their financial needs.
Furthermore, Uber has introduced Upfront Destination and Upfront Fares, providing drivers with advance information on both the destination and the potential earnings of a trip before they accept it. These features are designed to help drivers make informed decisions about the trips they choose to accept, factoring in details such as base fare, estimated trip length and duration, pickup distance, and surge pricing. These enhancements are now available to drivers across all Uber products throughout the country.
Tope Akinwumi, Uber Nigeria’s Country Manager, emphasized,
“At the core of our business are our earners, and we are committed to integrating their input to continuously innovate and enhance their platform experience. We are excited to introduce these features, which offer drivers greater control over their daily engagements on the platform.”

To adapt to rising fuel costs and emissions concerns, Uber has also rolled out a Bicycle product specifically designed for short deliveries while maintaining motorcycles for longer routes.
In collaboration with Travelstart, Uber expanded its transportation services beyond Lagos and Abuja to additional cities nationwide in December 2023.
Uber continues to prioritize safety, incorporating numerous safety features into its platform such as Audio Recording, Real-Time ID Checks, Rider Verification, and an Emergency Button accessible within the app.
Akinwumi adds, “Uber is dedicated to supporting our drivers, advancing safety protocols, and nurturing a culture of excellence across the platform.”
