SA's Play Sense Secures Undisclosed Funds to Fuel Expansion Ambitions

Play Sense, an independent preschool-focused edtech platform in South Africa has raised an undisclosed amount of funding in a recent funding round led by Grindstone Ventures. The funding will support the company's expansion as it continues to offer play-based learning through its online micro-schools platform called plaDorm.


Founded by early childhood experts Meg Faure and Lara Schoenfeld, Play Sense focuses on developing core skills and school readiness in toddlers and pre-schoolers through a combination of various types of play. The company's micro-school model allows teachers to establish their own playschools either at home or in a space provided by one of the families in the group.


Play Sense's franchise program, known as a "business in a box," provides entrepreneurs with comprehensive training, a Play Kit, and support in areas such as operations, administration, marketing, and teacher assistance. This model aims to offer a cost-effective and scalable approach to progressive preschool education.


Meg Faure highlighted that Play Sense empowers women who are passionate about early childhood education to become successful entrepreneurs and make a lasting impact in their communities, both in terms of education and economic empowerment.

Since its launch, Play Sense has benefited over 1,200 children through its play-based learning approach. The funding from Grindstone Ventures, which focuses on investing in companies with strong intellectual property and exponential growth potential, will enable Play Sense to further enhance its franchise model and accelerate its growth trajectory.
