Zoie Health, a South African e-health startup, has successfully concluded a pre-seed extension funding round to support its expansion and growth plans.
Catering specifically to women's holistic digital wellness, Zoie Health provides a range of services including virtual consultations, at-home consultations, medication subscriptions, valuable resources, and a supportive community for women to navigate their healthcare journeys.
Currently serving over 5,000 members with an impressive 80% subscriber retention rate, Zoie Health has effectively utilized network effects, relatability, and a sense of belonging to establish its presence. The startup has already onboarded 50 healthcare practitioners and is now poised for further growth after securing funding from 4DX Ventures and E Squared Investments.
With the newly acquired funds, Zoie Health intends to expand its offerings and establish Africa's first digital women's health clinic. The company plans to enhance its product portfolio and extend its reach to new countries across the continent. Thato Schermer, Co-founder and CEO of Zoie Health expressed the team's belief in the scalability of their offering and outlined their expansion strategy, targeting emerging markets in the SADC region, as well as Kenya and Nigeria.

Gladwyn Leeuw, Chief Investment Officer at E Squared, highlighted the impressive expertise of Zoie Health's founding team, noting that it is entirely led by black women. Leeuw emphasized the team's ability to build a high-impact tech solution that aligns with their values and provides promising returns. The funding round represents an extension of E Squared's initial investment and entrepreneurial support through the E Squared Pathways facility.
Through this investment, the goal is to support digital innovation in women's healthcare and make quality and affordable healthcare accessible to working-class women. By incorporating a digital component, Zoie Health aims to overcome the challenges of accessing traditionally hard-to-reach services, offering a viable alternative to those who cannot afford to miss work or endure long queues at government clinics. It also presents an opportunity for individuals who find private-sector healthcare prohibitively expensive.
The funding round signifies a significant step forward for Zoie Health as it embarks on expanding its services and impact within the women's healthcare sector, leveraging technology to provide accessible and quality healthcare solutions.
