South African startup DigsConnect, a digital student accommodation platform, has secured undisclosed funding from Intaba Capital as part of its ongoing Series A round.

DigsConnect, founded by Alexandria Procter and Greg Ramsay-Keal in 2018, provides a platform for landlords, estate agents, and property managers to list their properties for student accommodation. Students can search and filter through the listings to find suitable housing options and connect with potential roommates.

Last year, DigsConnect closed a pre-Series A funding round to support its international expansion plans, with a focus on assisting African students in the UK and the US in finding affordable, convenient, and safe housing. The company also formed a partnership with Student.com, the world's largest student accommodation site, enabling its expansion to around 30 new countries and 400 new cities.

Currently in the process of raising its Series A round, DigsConnect has secured funding from Intaba Capital, a Cape Town-based women-led investment and advisory firm. Intaba Capital, established in 2019, offers consultancy and advisory services, including transaction advisory, financial and commercial due diligence, financial analysis, valuations, and assistance with capital raising, mergers, acquisitions, and disposals.

According to Procter, the investment from Intaba Capital came about after the startup caught the attention of a US-based charitable organization interested in supporting its mission. The organization required extensive due diligence, which led them to engage Intaba Capital. Over several months, the Intaba team thoroughly reviewed DigsConnect's transaction history, dating back to when Procter and Ramsay-Keal started the business from Ramsay-Keal's apartment.

Afterwards, the collaboration between DigsConnect and Intaba Capital continued as the latter assisted the company with financial modelling for its international growth plans. As the working relationship grew stronger, Intaba Capital invested in DigsConnect, becoming the first participant in the startup's Series A funding round.

Procter also highlighted the significance of Intaba Capital's female leadership, noting that in her experience of pitching to investors for nearly six years, it is rare to come across such a dynamic.
