The Nigerian Government has on Wednesday, 11 August, revealed plans to remove the ban placed on microblogging platform, Twitter after a series of meetings and agreements with the company.

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Communications, speaking to the press at the Federal Executive Committee meeting, disclosed that most of the conditions given to Twitter have been accepted by the company.

Mr Lai also assured Nigerians that Twitter has also agreed to open an office in Nigeria. Though it remains unclear when that will happen.

It was only two months ago that the microblogging platform was suspended in Nigeria over disparities between the company and a tweet by Nigeria's President Buhari that was flagged as 'inciting a genocide.'

Since the ban, Nigerians have depended on VPNs to access the platform. And in that period, Twitter established its first African Headquarters in neighbouring nation, Ghana.
