MDaaS Global, a Nigerian-based health tech firm known for its network of advanced diagnostic centres, recently announced a $3 million pre-Series A financing boost. This funding round saw contributions from Aruwa Capital and Newton Partners, with Newton Partners also leading MDaaS's $2.3 million seed extension in 2021. Ventures Platform contributed follow-on capital, increasing MDaaS's total funding to $6.8 million.

The company aims to utilize this fresh capital for the rollout of BeaconOS, its proprietary technology platform launched last year. Additionally, MDaaS plans to significantly expand its healthcare network throughout Nigeria by establishing both company-owned and affiliate clinics across all states.

Healthcare accessibility remains a critical issue in Nigeria and across Africa, with a tendency towards treating diseases only after they become critical rather than focusing on prevention. MDaaS is recognized for its efforts in improving diagnostic and preventive healthcare services, which is vital for the early detection and management of life-threatening diseases, particularly non-communicable ones.

Since our last update, MDaaS has seen considerable growth, now operating 17 diagnostic centres spread over 10 states. The company aims to open 23 more centres in the near future. Founded in 2017 by Oluwasoga Oni, Opeyemi Ologun, Genevieve Oni, and Joseph McCord, MDaaS offers a wide range of diagnostic services including imaging, cardiac services, and lab services through its centres.

The SentinelX app, initially designed for individual customers, has evolved into a B2B product focusing on providing corporate and annual screenings for employees. This pivot has proved successful, opening up new revenue streams through pre-employment and government-mandated screenings, in addition to continuing to serve individual customers.

MDaaS’s operations and expansion in Nigeria are anchored on BeaconOS and its integrated care network. BeaconOS allows for effective management of patient services and clinical results, while the care network involves collaborations with over 1,300 clinicians and more than 1,000 organizations, including hospitals and health tech startups.

To date, MDaaS has catered to over 275,000 patients, with the past year alone seeing 108,724 patients, 60.8% of whom were women. The health tech conducted over 240,000 diagnostic tests, identifying high levels of hypertension among the working population as a common issue.

MDaaS has also introduced Olewerk and Beam to streamline diagnostic workflows and manage occupational health, respectively. With the new investment, MDaaS plans to further develop the BeaconOS platform, including creating an affiliate clinic portal and a patient-facing app for easier appointment bookings and health management.

Adesuwa Okunbo Rhodes, founder and managing partner at Aruwa Capital, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with MDaaS Global, highlighting the company's impactful work in healthcare delivery in Africa and its significant contributions to women's health.
