Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Africa Institute Global Africa Translation Fellowship. This program, under the banner of The Africa Institute's African Languages and Translation Program, is inviting scholars to join its fourth cohort.
The fellowship is open to applicants from the Global South and offers a grant of up to $5,000 to support the translation of key works from the African continent and its diaspora into English or Arabic, though submissions in other languages will also be considered.
This non-residential fellowship enables scholars to undertake their translation projects outside of The Africa Institute's base in Sharjah, UAE. The initiative seeks to broaden the accessibility of significant African and African Diaspora studies texts to global audiences.
Funding amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000, based on the project's scope and significance. Suitable projects may include new translations or retranslations of classic texts, and can encompass works of poetry, prose, or critical theory. Both ongoing projects and new proposals that can be completed within the grant period are welcome.
