The Africa Business Angel Network (ABAN) has introduced two thematic angel networks with the aim of providing support to startups in Africa that are developing solutions in the smart cities and digital trade sectors.
ABAN, established in 2015, holds the distinction of being the largest pan-African organization of angel investors. It represents over 65 business angel groups across 35 African countries and the diaspora, totalling more than 1,400 members.
The newly launched Smart Cities and Digital Trade angel networks will concentrate on addressing the challenges faced by urban areas in Africa. These networks will invest in startups that offer innovative solutions to tackle these issues.

These two networks complete the set of four thematic networks that ABAN, in partnership with AEDIB|Net, announced last year. The other two networks are the Climate Smart Agriculture and Clean Technology angel networks.
The Digital Trade Angel Network will be led by Lynton Peters, an angel investor and the founder of OneCart. On the other hand, Serge Ntamack, a founding Board Member of the Cameroon Angels Network, will head the Smart Cities Angel Network. Both initiatives receive support from ABAN President Tomi Davies and ABAN Secretary General Fadilah Tchoumba.
“ABAN would like to commend its angel investor networks for the work they are doing on strengthening the African startup ecosystem. Our network acknowledges all the catalytic contributions as mentors and angel investors in supporting startups across Africa. Our champions’ commitment to driving angel investment into African startups has made them leaders in Digital Trade and Smart Cities,”
Tchoumba said.
