About the job/Responsibilities
- Conduct Testing Procedures: Develop and execute testing procedures to assess the performance, accuracy, and functionality of meters throughout the production process. This includes conducting functional tests, performance tests, endurance tests, and environmental tests.
- Calibration and Adjustment: Perform calibration and adjustment procedures to ensure the accuracy and precision of meter readings. Use appropriate calibration tools and equipment to calibrate meters according to specified standards.
- Test Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results. Perform routine maintenance, calibrations, and repairs on testing equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to identify trends, patterns, and potential issues. Prepare detailed reports summarizing test results, including any deviations from specifications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve any identified issues.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with the quality assurance team to develop and implement quality control processes and procedures. Ensure that all manufactured meters meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that mandatory and legislative QH&S/HS&E aspects of work are implemented at all times and that adequate training and dissemination of knowledge on safety and other general matters is given to staff under your control.
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement changes that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the testing and calibration processes.
- Assist in the development and Improvement of Inspection and Calibration procedures
- Compliance and Standards: Stay updated with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications related to meter manufacturing and testing. Ensure that all testing and calibration activities adhere to the required standards.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all testing and calibration activities. Ensure that records are properly organized and accessible for future reference or audits.
- Maintain the Calibration Database and filing system
- Maintenance of Calibration Certification and files
- Assist with on-the-job training when required
- Participate in Inter-laboratory measurement audits
- Participate in external/internal audits as required by the Quality Manager within the customer facility.
- Perform other laboratory support functions as required in an efficient and orderly manner
Requirements
- Must have previous experience as an Electrical Instrument Calibration Engineer/Technician
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in (Applied) Physics, Electronics or Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or any relevant field.
- Be practical, structured, self-reliant and a self-starter
- Excellent computer and computing/reporting skills
- Affinity with working with Quality Control Systems in a laboratory environment
- Previous experience in test and calibration engineering, preferably in the field of meter manufacturing or a related industry. (3-5 years minimum)
- Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, measurement principles, and calibration techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations in the metering industry (e.g., IEC, ANSI, ISO).
- Proficiency in using various test equipment and calibration tools (e.g., multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power sources).
- Experience with data analysis software and tools for processing and interpreting test data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of quality control processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles is a plus
- Must be PC literate with knowledge in Windows-based and laboratory automation software
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
- Be able to work with the minimum of supervision
- The ability to understand/interpret circuit diagrams will be advantageous.
- Experience of working within Customer focused environment
- Experience of Industrial process control (basic loop and control systems)
- Experience with RF/Microwave Calibration
- Ability to calibrate client equipment on site
